Unbelievable! People have told us about the loudness and the huge numbers of fireworks that are set off during the week of Chinese New Year, Jan. 25 - Feb 1.
We were still unprepared for the amazing, loud, colorful, and huge amount of fireworks that Sunday evening all over the city. As far as the eye could see, there were beautiful displays of colorful light. Fireworks are sold from booths set up on the street corners. The people of Beijing buy large boxes of various types and long strings of firecrackers.
Just outside our apartment windows we saw and heard fabulous flying rockets, huge booming explosions, and star bursts of color. It was soooo loud!! It felt like we were in the middle of a military target zone. The windows rattled with the force of the explosions that were set of close to the apartment building. It started at dusk and kept going, getting very
ferocious at midnight!
Every direction we looked, the city was exploding in color from the ground, from tops of buildings, and from the streets. Besides the loud noise, it looked like a garden of exploding blooms of light. Unforgettable.
Every night of the week there was fireworks being set off, but not like the first and last night of the holiday. Even during the day loud booms, like cherry bombs, could still be heard.
What would you do with these firecrackers?
